American Summer

Poems written while traveling.

Grand Mountains


Cloud-shrouded and cloud-capped.
Cloud-dressed and cloud-concealed.

Burdened with the idlings of heavy clouds
and absolved by the grace of clouds.

Subjugated by the clouds' presence
and whims; supplicant to nothing—the clouds

drift away.  Their thrilling majesty is
revealed by the wildflowers gathered
      at my wet feet.
