Tomb and Temple

As the sky fills with anima-shaped clouds
a glorious landscape is emphatically revealed.

In muted colors, in ancient geologies, in
arcane precipitation something falls and rises

through the crumbling sand, stone and dust
as monument to some celestial warrior-kings.

Ponder the architect and his heady plan.
Ponder those who died as builders, the thousand

down-trodden ones:   the afternoon sets them up
as they gather in pilgrimage, rising overhead.
